Modern Gabbeh-Style rugs

Geometric shapes, floral ornaments, blurred lines - with our modern Gabbeh-Style rugs you will be immersed in the living culture of Pakistan and Afghanistan, in the life of the weavers, their everyday life, their experiences and in the impressive nature that surrounds them every day. The beauty of the landscapes and the natural wool - all this is reflected in the beautiful hand-knotted rugs. All the myths of the country and its people are reinvented on these special pieces. Our Gabbeh-Style rugs are hand-knotted from Afghan highland wool and partially dyed with natural dyes. These special pieces are soft and at the same time robust. Their naturalness and warm colors create a cozy feel-good atmosphere in your home.

Gabbeh-Style rugs - handmade from a small workshop

Our Gabbeh-Style rugs are hand knotted for us for decades by the same, small workshop in the border area of Pakistan and Afghanistan by men. For us at Teppich Jordan, it is especially important to visit the manufactory regularly and maintain contact with the local people. Their well-being is especially close to our hearts. We want to know the origin of each rug and the working conditions of each of our weavers in order to be able to advocate for them. For this reason, we are also an active member of "Care&Fair", a charity organization that campaigns against child labor.

Gabbeh-Style rugs made from highland wool

Our Gabbeh-Style rugs are purely handmade. The Afghan highland wool that the weavers work with is partially undyed wool, just as it comes from the sheep. All steps are handmade, from the careful washing of the wool to the stretching of the finished rug. Because the highland wool has a lot of residual fat, it is particularly soft and durable. Gabbeh-Style rugs differ from Gabbeh rugs or nomadic rugs mainly in the wool and colors. However, they differ even more in the production: Gabbeh-Style rugs are not knotted in the open air and not by women. Moreover, the men who make the elaborate rugs use templates for knotting. The nomadic rugs are unique pieces that are dyed exclusively with pure natural dyes, or their wool is undyed. In addition, only the highest quality wool from Iran is used for the rugs.
