1. The right rug size for the dining room / kitchen
The right rug size for your dining room or kitchen, depends on the table size, table shape and the number of chairs. Especially for dining room rugs that will be used more, for example, by sliding chairs, it is important to pay attention to the material and type of rug. A rug with good quality will allow you to move chairs and remove stains easily. Hand-knotted rugs with dense knotting made of good quality sheep's wool, or flat hand-woven rugsare the most suitable.
It is important that the rug is large enough for the dining area so that the chairs do not slide over the edge of the rug. These are the three most common variants:
-
A table and four chairs
If you have a table with four chairs and all the chairs are on the long side of the table, then it is recommended to take a rug size 170x240cm or 200x250cm. This variant is recommended for an approximate table size of 90x250cm.

Four to six chairs on the long side of the table
The next rug size is 250x300cm and is recommended for a table size of about 100x200cm. This rug size fits perfectly when all four to six chairs should be on the long side of the table.

Six to eight chairs
We recommend the rug size 250x350cm if you have six to eight chairs at a table of about 100x200cm, two of them at the short ends of the table.

2. The right rug size for the living room
If you place the front feet of the seating furniture on the rug, you will create a living island. The visual togetherness of the rug and the seating furniture creates coziness in the living room. In general, the rule of thumb is that the rug should be at least 20 cm wider than the sofa. Here, too, the most common mistake is that rugs are bought too small and thus can not create a feel-good atmosphere.
Therefore, we recommend three variants of how to place your new rug:
-
The front feet of the seating furniture stand on the rug
Place the front feet of the seating furniture on the rug, creating a cozy living island. The optimal size for a living room rug in this variant would be 250x300cm or 250x350cm, if you have an armchair in addition to sofas.

All seating furniture is on the rug
If you want to place all the seating furniture and side table on the living room rug, then the size should be at least 250x350cm or more. This option is best if you want to bring coziness and comfort to a large room.

The rug is in front of the seating
There is a third variant, which is possible, but provides less living atmosphere, because you can also put the living room rug in front of the seating furniture. The most common rug size, which is used for this purpose, is the size of about 170x240cm.

3. The right rug size for the bedroom
-
The whole bed is on the bedroom rug
If you put the whole bed and also the nightstands on the bedroom rug, you will create a cozy sleeping island in the bedroom. For this variant, you would need the largest rug of all four variants. For example, with a bed size of 180x200 cm, a rug with a standard size of about 250x350 cm would be suitable. On the right and left side, the rug should have the same distance from the bed to create a harmonious symmetry. If you have other bed dimensions, then simply add about 30-40 cm to the bed length and width. In this way, you can easily determine the correct size of the rug.

Only the front feet of the bed are on the bedroom rug
A similar variant would be to place the bed only with the front feet on the bedroom rug. In this variant, the bedside tables do not stand on the rug. This way of laying the rug is especially suitable for slightly smaller rooms.

A rug runner lies in front of the bed
The third variant, how to bring more coziness into your bedroom with rugs, is to put a rug runner in front of the bed. Add about 30 cm to the left and right of the bed width for the rug length, so that the rug comes out nicely.
For a bed with a width of 160cm:
Rug runner with a length of about 160cm to 200cm. -
Three rug runners as a bed border
The last variant is to put three rug runners around the bed as a bed border. Here the length again depends on the size of the bed.
For a bed with a width of 160cm:
Rug runner in front of the bed with a length of about 280cm to 320cm. Rug runners next to the bed with a width of about 70cm to 90cm. -
A comfortable carpet
The last option is to carpet the entire room. This has several advantages: a better indoor climate, less dust, sound insulation and, of course, coziness.
