Gabbeh rugs from southern Iran
Let yourself be inspired by the life of the nomads under the open sky, by their world full of colors, stories and myths. Gabbeh rugs are lovingly hand-knotted by the wandering people. In summer, the shepherds and cattle breeders live in the Zagros Mountains in southern Iran, where they knot the nomadic rugs in front of their tents. In winter, they move to the Persian Gulf. On their wanderings, the nomads are inspired by their experiences and the omnipresent nature and weave their stories into the rugs. Each individual piece has its own strong personality; there is sensuality and joie de vivre in each of the thousands of knots. Thus, blooming flowers become the happy motif of spring awakening and the patterns of the horizon are shown in their diverse color spectrum. The warm colors of the unique rugs create a special feel-good atmosphere that makes us dream of enchanted landscapes, lonely mountain regions and life in nature. Gabbeh rugs are a sensual play of thousands of knots. The hand-knotted unique pieces are also particularly soft, made of the highest quality hand-spun wool from Iran and dyed with pure natural dyes. Be amazed by the wide selection and design options that the rugs offer you. We have the hand-knotted rugs in various sizes for you in stock. Thus, the nomadic rugs can move into any of your rooms.
Gabbeh rugs made from Zagros wool
The Iranian nomadic rugs from our assortment are made of pure Zagros wool, which is dyed with natural dyes. The wool comes from sheep from the Zagros Mountains, it is washed by hand, sorted and then dyed. Every step of the process is handmade: from shearing the animals, washing the wool to stretching the finished rug. Because the gentle processing of the wool preserves all the residual fat content, it is particularly soft and durable.

Gabbeh rugs in different variants
The Gabbeh rugs are knotted with two different techniques. Either they are knotted only by hand or the Soumakh technique is used. This means that the rugs are partly woven and partly knotted.
Hand knotted Gabbeh rugs
For the hand-knotted rugs, individual wool threads are knot by knot into the rug. This pure craftsmanship makes the pieces particularly durable and high quality. The pile height is between one and 1.5 centimeters, depending on the fineness of the knotting.
Partly hand knotted, partly woven Gabbeh rugs
Gabbeh rugs, which are partly woven and partly knotted using the Soumakh technique, have two pile heights. The flat, hand-woven elements of the rug have no pile, but often have colorful patterns and colorful details from Persian culture. The hand-knotted parts are cozy and soft.
